Vital Statistics are quantitative information about a population’s vital events such as births, marriages, divorces and deaths. Vital statistics in Sri Lanka are collected through the civil registration system of the country.

In addition to mid-year population estimates of the country, information on vital events are compiled and published by the Statistical Branch, also known as the Vital Statistics Unit of the Registrar General’s Department.
