Last updated: 03rd July 2008
The compilation of
National Economic Accounts for Sri Lanka was started during early 1950's by the
Department of Census and Statistics. The Department releases the estimates on
National Economic Accounts annually through the publication on "National
Accounts of Sri Lanka". In1950's the estimates consist of few tables on
production and expenditure accounts at current factor cost prices and constant
prices. The contents of the publication were gradually expanded since late
1960's.
The estimates in
real terms of the past data series were based on the constant prices of
1958,1963,1975and 1990. The current prices estimates were at current factor cost
prices until 1975 and thereafter it was at current producers'
prices. The National Accounts estimates are compiled based on the UN -
guidelines given in the System of National Accounts (SNA).
The present
estimates on National Economic Accounts has a broader coverage including
tables on productions, expenditure, cost components, distributions of National
Accounts, external transaction, supply and disposition, consolidated accounts on
production and expenditure, capital finance and rest of the world. It also
covers Income and Outlay Accounts and detailed expenditure on private
consumption and capital formation etc. Input Output
Tables were also compiled only for selected few years.
