Impact of Tsunami 2004 on Sri Lanka Last Updated: December 22, 2005
The world's fifth-largest quake in a century hit Southern Asia on 26th December 2004 unleashing a tsunami that crashed into Sri Lanka, India and a few other neighboring countries. A census on the Persons and Buildings (housing and other) of the census blocks, affected by the Tsunami - 2004, was conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics. Reports are now being released.
It has been arranged to release Indicators compiled based on the data collected at the second stage of the census on the Buildings and Persons Affected by the Tsunami – 2004 conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics, in two stages. In the first stage reports presenting a set of key indicators required for immediate decision making were released. Final reports are now being released district by district. The main tables of these reports are published below.
