You
have reached the home page of the web site that disseminates the latest findings
of Sri
Lanka Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) - 2002
conducted by the
Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) of Sri Lanka.
The
DCS conducts HIES once in every five years time.
HIES 2002 is the fifth in the series and was conducted during the
period from January 2002 to December 2002. The survey was to be conducted in
2000/01, but this had to be postponed due to the Census of Population and Housing
conducted in 2001. The data collection of HIES 2002 in the field was done in twelve monthly rounds to
capture the seasonal variation of income and expenditure patterns of households.
This website disseminates the
income and expenditure information and estimates found from all the 12 monthly rounds data of the Household Income and
Expenditure Survey - 2002.
It was decided to conduct the survey in the Northern and the Eastern provinces
separately in six monthly rounds starting from September 2002 due to the
constraints in sampling frame etc. So this website publishes data
pertaining the Northern and Eastern provinces separately.
