igures on population are either those obtained at the Population Censuses or estimates based on Census figures and the Registrar General’s Vital statistics (Births and Deaths). The Population Censuses were taken in the 1871,1881,1891,1901,1911,1921,1931

(Partial census of a total count only) 1946,1953,1963,1971,1981 and 2001. The data given for these years are obtained from the respective Censuses while the figures for the intercensal years are based on estimates.
